Only three matches into the new era at Old Trafford, Manchester United's coach Ruben Amorim is already facing serious problems.

The Red Devils have not won a single match in the Premier League, managing only three draws against Arsenal and Fulham, and suffered an embarrassing exit from the Carabao Cup to League Two club Grimsby, whose value is £765.9 million less than United.

After spending £200 million on summer transfers, Amorim has achieved only 17 wins in 45 matches - only seven of which were in the league. Thus, he currently sits second on the list of likely dismissals after Graham Potter from West Ham.

His league performance statistics are striking: seven wins out of 29, only 33 goals scored and 44 conceded, with a win percentage of 24.1%, which places him at the level of Neil Warnock, who has been relegated twice from the top division.

The criticized coach gave a cryptic response after the match against Grimsby, stating that his players were 'talking very loudly' and that 'something must change', but it 'cannot be 22 players again'.

Who is most likely to replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford?GETTY

Oliver Glasner has become the bookmakers' favorite to replace Amorim with odds of 7/2 from Betfair.

Glasner, 51, has elevated his reputation since he started managing at Selhurst in February 2024. The Austrian led the team to its first major trophy, defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final, and then added the Community Shield by winning against Liverpool.

His win percentage in the Premier League stands at 46.15% - the best record among all Crystal Palace managers who have only managed in the top division.

Former England national team coach Gareth Southgate is next on the list with odds of 5/1. He has been unemployed since his departure after Euro 2024 final, where England lost to Spain, and it is reported he remains among the favorites of INEOS.

Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently managing the US national team, also has odds to return to the Premier League at 15/2. Earlier he managed Southampton, Tottenham, and Chelsea.

Zinedine Zidane (15/2), Unai Emery (8/1), and Xavi (8/1) are also contenders for the position, while Kieran McKenna, Julian Nagelsmann, and Andoni Iraola have odds of 10/1.

A Betfair representative said:

“Ruben Amorim continues to tread a fine line following United's defeat to Grimsby, which has sparked new rumors.”

“Oliver Glasner is now the favorite with odds of 7/2 to lead Old Trafford, with Gareth Southgate also in serious contention at 5/1.”
Recent results from Manchester United raise concerns among its fans and management. If Ruben Amorim cannot improve the situation, he may soon be replaced by candidates who already have considerable experience in coaching. Time will tell whether he can find a way out of the crisis or if the team will again be in search of a new coach.
