Manchester United prepares a major cleanup: who will leave the club in the summer

According to The Sun: Casemiro could become a central figure in the largest mass player departure from Manchester United in the last four years, however, Harry Maguire's career at Old Trafford may get a new chance.

Brazilian Casemiro, whose contract ends at the end of the season with an option for another year, has attracted the attention of the club, which plans to spend significant money on a new midfielder, among whom is Carlos Baleba.

Casemiro, who will celebrate his 34th birthday in February, is one of the highest-paid players at the club, earning £300,000 a week after moving for £70 million.

Although his relationship with the team has soured following an impressive first season in 2022-23, United is also considering extending Maguire's contract, which also expires this season.

Manager Ruben Amorim activated a one-year option in the defender's contract in January, and the club has rejected summer requests to extend the collaboration with the 32-year-old Ukrainian.

Maguire, who became the world's most expensive defender, moved from Leicester for £80 million in 2019, earning £190,000 a week.

However, United may try to keep Maguire by offering a reduced salary, as he will celebrate his 33rd birthday in March.

Among the players who left the club in 2022 were Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, and Jesse Lingard.

At that time, the most expensive summer transfer window in the club's history took place when Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Jadon Sancho joined the squad.

Jadon Sancho's prospects

United is likely to make a decision regarding Jadon Sancho, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.

Sancho, who cost the club £73 million in the summer of 2022, has not played in any league matches for the Red Devils for over two years and has spent the last two and a half years on loan, including at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia, the only remaining representative of the 'bomb-squad', will be looking to find a new club in the winter transfer window, as his contract with United expires next summer.

Malacia joined the club for £13 million, but due to serious injuries and surgeries, he has not played for more than 550 days.

Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton, when his contract expires in nine months, will be 40 years old and has already completed a coaching course.

Staff problems at Manchester United

One of Manchester United's biggest issues last season was that practically every Premier League team had a better striker, believes Samuel Luckhurst.

Currently, almost every Premier League team has a higher quality goalkeeper than the one at United.

In particular, Ruben Amorim even acknowledged that Altay Bayindir is not the undisputed number one for the team, as his performance raises concerns.

With new goalkeeper Senne Lammens, whom United bought from Royal Antwerp for £18.2 million, the situation also remains uncertain, as he has yet to play for the Belgian national team and has not made it into the national squad.

In conclusion, Manchester United has great potential, however, their on-field situation remains uncertain.
