Lukas Akins has returned to Mansfield after serving his sentence for murdering a cyclistPA

The cyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries, but unfortunately passed away ten days later on March 27, 2022.

Akins served 14 months in prison starting in April after pleading guilty to careless driving. However, he was released after just six months.

The 'Mansfield' club renewed the contract with striker Lukas Akins, as confirmed in a statement.

"Mansfield Town Football Club confirms that it has retained the registration of striker Lukas Akins, who has returned after serving his sentence."

"This occurred following a traffic accident in March 2022, in which Mr. Adrian Daniel lost his life."

"The club would like to once again express its sincere condolences to Mr. Daniel's family and friends. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident."

Savannah Daniel, Adrian's wife, testified in court about how her life was 'forever changed' after the death of her husband.

She said she learned of the tragedy through the computer on the bicycle, which notified her as Adrian's emergency contact.

Savannah drove to the accident scene before Adrian was taken to the hospital, where he unfortunately died 11 days later.

"I learned that the adrenaline junkie I knew and loved would not be coming back. On Sunday, the 27th, Adrian passed away."

The court was informed that the terrible incident occurred on March 17, 2022, when Adrian was cycling in the village of Netherton.

Akins was driving his young daughter to piano lessons when he approached an intersection with a fast car.

"Vehicles are required to give way on Huddersfield Road, which the defendant should have done."

In failing to delay his vehicle, Akins did not give way to the bicycle, leading to the fatal accident.

The court confirmed that Akins was aware of this route and should have given way.

Ultimately, the court decided that the footballer not only received a prison sentence but was also banned from driving for two years.

"You did not see Mr. Daniel, and you drove into him. The impact was devastating."

Just hours after pleading guilty, Akins played for Mansfield in a match against Wigan.

Manager Nigel Clough commented on his decision to include Akins in the starting lineup, noting that the club was aware of the situation.

Akins began his career in the youth academy of Huddersfield and also played for several clubs such as Northwich Victoria and Stevenage. He spent eight years at Burton Albion before moving to Mansfield in January 2022.

"Mansfield Town acknowledges the court's ruling regarding Lukas Akins following the tragic traffic accident in March 2022."

The return of Lukas Akins to football has generated significant discussion among fans and media, as the tragic accident remains fresh in many minds. The club is considering the feelings of the deceased's family and public opinion in its decision to find a balance between sports and ethics. At the same time, Akins' future performances on the pitch could be an important step towards restoring his career.
