In the second session, he continued to impress, setting a century break in the first frame, bringing him closer to victory.
Mark Williams' New Achievement
This victory marked the 27th in Williams' career in world ranking competitions, which now leaves him just one step away from the title of snooker legend Steve Davis.
At the age of 50 years and 206 days, he became the oldest player to win a ranking title, breaking a record that stood for 43 years, held by Ray Reardon.
“He will earn £177,000 in prize money, while Murphy will be left with £76,000,” reports say.
Williams also ended Murphy's fantastic streak of 13 wins, who previously won the British Open Championship, defeating players like Judd Trump and Mark Selby. Now Williams has become the first player to win a tournament in his teenage years, in his 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.
After his victory in China and the prize money, the three-time world champion rose to fourth place in the world rankings, surpassing Ronnie O'Sullivan.
