Mass emigration of youth from Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: In the last two months, about 100 thousand Ukrainians aged 18 to 22 have left the country, taking advantage of the relaxation of exit rules for young citizens. This was reported by The Telegraph, citing information from European border services.

The largest increase in young Ukrainians entering Poland is observed in this country. If from the beginning of the year until August, 45,300 young people from Ukraine arrived in Poland, then from September to October this number doubled, reaching 99,000. The number of border crossings increased to 1,600 people per day.

Similar trends are observed in Germany, where the number of Ukrainian men aged 18 to 22 increased weekly from 19 to over a thousand. As noted by Bavarian BR24, in October this figure fluctuated between 1,400 and 1,800 persons per week.

The decision to allow exit for citizens up to 23 years old was made after three years of martial law, which restricted the exit of men aged 18 to 60. Authorities hoped that such freedom would encourage youth to return and join the Armed Forces after training or working abroad.

'Instead, the policy led to the opposite effect - a mass exodus of youth, especially under conditions of significant migration pressure in the EU,' the publication notes.

After the relaxation of exit rules for youth, there has been a significant increase in the emigration of young Ukrainians to Poland and Germany. This situation may have significant consequences for Ukrainian society and the economy, as well as affect the authorities' efforts to attract youth to serve in the Armed Forces.
