Profanities and Insults. The Award Ceremony at the European Wrestling Championship Ended in Scandal.
The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, considers the Albanian wrestler Chermen Valiev a traitor. Valiev defeated the Russian Sidakov at the European Wrestling Championship in Bratislava and received an award from Mamiashvili, but he made insulting comments about him. This was reported by Russian media. Earlier, Valiev represented the Russian national team but switched teams in February 2024.
Also, the Russian wrestler Dinara Kudaeva will participate in the European Wrestling Championship. She posted a photo of her occupying father, which contradicts the International Olympic Committee's requirements for the 'neutral' status of athletes from Russia. However, the International Wrestling Federation still allowed her to compete in the tournaments.
It is also worth noting the successes of other Ukrainian athletes. Silver medalist of the Olympics in Paris, Irina Kolyadenko, will compete at the European Championship in the 65 kg weight category. She also experienced occupation and the destruction of her home during the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
