The Dutchman confirmed that he should be taken seriously, setting an impressive lap record with an average speed of 264 km/h.

Norris, who was satisfied with his performance after a setback in Zandvoort, initially surpassed Verstappen's time in the final session, but the Dutchman responded quickly. This was Verstappen's first pole since July at the British Grand Prix and his 45th in his career, despite the challenges faced by the Red Bull team this season.

He exclaimed:

“Yes, guys! This is incredible. Great job. Everything worked out. All good.”

Charles Leclerc, last year's winner in Monza, finished fourth, while Lewis Hamilton came in fifth but has to start from tenth due to a penalty.

Verstappen looked confident throughout the session, posting the fastest time early in the final session and achieving the best time in Q2.

Norris had a concerning moment at the beginning of Q2 when he made a mistake that forced him to abort his lap and head to the pits.

Hamilton was lucky to make it into the final sessions, finishing ninth, while Norris later managed to secure fifth place.

George Russell overtook Hamilton and finished fifth, while Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto, Fernando Alonso, and Yuki Tsunoda improved their positions.

Norris remarked:

“Max was quick all weekend, and that’s never a surprise.”

“It was an interesting session for me: up and down, too many mistakes here and there.

“It was really nice to put everything together in the last lap, so I’m happy with P2.”

“I always evaluate my performance based on how I drove that day. I feel like I didn’t show my best result, but P2 is still pleasing. There were good and bad moments.

“P2 is a good position for the start. I want to be ahead of everyone. It’s a good position for tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to the race.”

“The speed in the race on Sunday is usually our strength, but overtaking Max will likely be difficult.

“I expect nothing magical, as Ferrari is behind us, and I’m sure they want to push forward.”

The race in Monza promises to be extremely exciting, as Verstappen's closest competitors will be Norris and last year's winner Leclerc. Given the speed shown by the drivers in qualification, an exhilarating race with unexpected twists can be expected.

On Saturday, not only the drivers but also the teams' strategies will fight for victory, which can significantly impact the race outcomes. Will Verstappen be able to maintain his lead, or will Norris and other drivers find ways to overtake him? That will soon be clear.
