Canelo Prepares for the Fight with Crawford

According to The Sun: The undisputed knockout artist Jaron Ennis could be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's secret weapon in his showdown against boxing superstar Terence Crawford. Crawford, who effortlessly switches stances from orthodox to southpaw, will meet Alvarez this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Alvarez has invited Ennis, who boasts a record of 34-0, as a sparring partner. Ennis, like Crawford, quickly switches stances, and former star boxer Shawn Porter believes this could be an important advantage for Canelo.

“That's excellent work,” Porter said on his podcast.

“I always say when you're preparing for a title fight, you need a factor that elevates your level. You never know what that might be. It could be a run in the mountains or a certain sparring partner.”

Porter lost to Crawford in 2021, after which they formed a friendly relationship, but even the former welterweight champion is concerned for his friend in the fight.

“This move makes me somewhat anxious for my friend,” he added.

“Because this guy is really good and can show everything that Canelo will see on fight night.”

“And all Canelo needs is a few rounds with this guy, as finding someone who can replicate your opponent's style can be difficult.”

Crawford, who is 37 years old, also acknowledged that he's glad Alvarez brought Ennis into his camp.

“He's fighting the best boxer in the world — he should take this seriously,” Crawford noted.

“This confirms how seriously he takes me. If I weren't important, he wouldn't need these guys to prepare for the fight against me.”

“He's not just bringing him in for show,” Porter continued.

“You might think you're just bringing him in for the cameras, but after a round and a half, you'll realize you need to work seriously because this guy exhibits his style all across the board.”

Ennis, who will step up to 154 pounds on October 11 against Wisman Lima in his hometown of Philadelphia, shared his impressions of the sparring sessions.

“I gained experience diving into boxing with Canelo. As I said, it was an interesting event. I really enjoyed it,” Ennis confessed.
