Mick Conlan's Opinions on Doping in British Boxing

According to The Sun: Mick Conlan, an Irish boxer known for his sharp comments on boxing corruption, is worried about the spread of doping among British athletes.

The 33-year-old boxer became popular by openly protesting against biased judging that deprived him of a chance to fight in the semifinals of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Conlan believes that the issue of doping in sports is serious, especially in the context of boxing in the UK. “I think it’s a massive problem,” he emphasized before the fight with Jack Bateson.

“I think America is ahead. Russia has always been ahead. I believe the UK is definitely catching up in some sense, and there are people in the country who are actively using doping.”

Although Conlan dreams of bringing a world championship title to Ireland, he has suffered three knockout losses in the last three years, which almost made him quit boxing.

Regardless of his career results, he will take pride in always having been clean.

“I’ve always said I would never use doping, because at the end of my career – whether I achieve something or not – I’ll be able to look at myself in the mirror and say: 'I did it my way'.”

Fight with Jack Bateson

Jack Bateson, who has not commented on doping issues, will meet Conlan in Dublin, where most fans do not support him.

“For me, there is no pressure, as everyone asked to pick a winner thinks he will win because I'm fighting in his home ring.”

It is worth noting that there is respect between Bateson and Conlan, as they were sparring partners before and have friendly relations.

This situation highlights the importance of the discussion on the purity of sports, as doping remains a serious issue in the ring-field environment. Conlan, responsible for his attitude towards sports, seeks to draw attention to these issues before important bouts that could change not only his career but also the overall image of boxing.
