Michael van Gerwen might miss the tournament worth £600,000: Reason for the player's decision.
Michael van Gerwen forgoes the chance for a prize of £120,000
According to The Sun: Michael van Gerwen, a 36-year-old player, has withdrawn from the Players Championship 27 taking place in Gildehaus, Germany.
Van Gerwen withdrew from the previous tournament Players Championship 26 on Tuesday after losing to Callan Rydz and currently sits 100th in the overall tournament standings.
This means he is £9,000 short of making it into the top 64, which would have given him the opportunity to qualify for the Players Championship Finals.
Although he is not mathematically out of the race yet, his withdrawal from the PC27 may indicate that he has given up on the effort to qualify for the finals.
As such, he misses the opportunity to win the grand prize of £120,000 from a total prize pool of £600,000.
There are still seven Players Championships left before the finals, and just one win could bring van Gerwen £15,000 and improve his position in the overall table.
But the more tournaments he misses, the lower his chances of qualification.

“Well, I didn't want to be here today and tomorrow,” Price said. “I missed a European event last week due to an infection on my hand and missed Pro Tours before that.”
“I don’t think he’ll be in the Players Championship Finals. If you miss too many, it can catch up with you, and next year it will be the same.”Getty Michael van Gerwen has undoubtedly left his mark in dart history, and his withdrawal from tournaments underscores the competitive pressure even the strongest players face. The participants in the Players Championship will continue to fight for prizes as the audience eagerly awaits the final stages of the competition, which promise to be stormy and unpredictable.
