Mick Schumacher prepares for a sensational move to IndyCar: why it's risky.
Mick Schumacher considers a move to IndyCar
According to The Sun: Mick Schumacher, the son of legendary seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, may move to IndyCar. He last competed in Formula 1 in 2022 for the Haas team.
ReutersIn recent years, he switched to the FIA World Endurance Championship but now intends to test in IndyCar. On October 13, it was announced that Schumacher would test for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
This will be a new challenge that neither his father nor four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen took on. The oval track has an official record maximum speed of 236.986 mph, set by Arie Luyendyk in 1996, which is faster than the Formula 1 record held by Valtteri Bottas in 2016.
Participants in the Indianapolis 500 can reach speeds of 500 miles without a steering wheel, which is crucial in Formula 1. Michael Schumacher, commenting on the Indy 500 races, said:
“At such speeds, when you are so close to the walls, the chassis won't hold up in a crash.”He also added:
“This means that you could suffer serious leg injuries or even worse consequences.”

Max Verstappen, commenting on IndyCar, noted:
“The risk of serious accidents is very high. When you manage to hit the wall at speeds over 320 km/h, it's not funny at all.”
However, Mick Schumacher Jr. is eagerly anticipating his test run. He thanked the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team for the opportunity:
“I am really looking forward to my first test in IndyCar. Thank you to the team for this opportunity as I will be driving on a track with a great history, where my dad has already raced.”
Schumacher also shared his excitement:
“This will be a unique opportunity as I've heard a lot about how physically demanding this race is.”
Mick Schumacher is preparing for a new stage in his career, and his testing at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be an important step before a possible move to IndyCar. Traditionally, this championship has its specifics and many challenges that await the racers. Time will tell how the young racer copes with the new conditions and how well he can prove himself in this sporting environment.
