Olga Kharlan, a legend of Ukrainian fencing, who recently won Ukraine's first gold at the Paris Olympics in team competitions, shared a painful revelation. Her father, who lives in the athlete's hometown of Mykolaiv, is forced to hide in the basement every night due to constant rocket shelling.
«My father is still sleeping in the basement. Every night. Yes, he sleeps in the basement. And I will talk about it. He doesn't like when I say this, but it's true. I believe that everyone should know everything. I know that many are watching me, it seems, either Russian athletes or people. Therefore, I want them to know that this is how my parents live», - she said this on the YouTube channel BBC News Ukraine.
Olga Kharlan - a successful athlete from Mykolaiv
Kharlan was born in Mykolaiv. She is the 2008 Olympic champion in fencing, a six-Time world champion, and an eight-time European champion, a European Games champion, a silver and bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics, and a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics.
