A Triumphant Return to the Stage

According to Espreso.tv: Singer Mika Newton has debuted Ukrainian-language versions of her biggest hits during her first concert in Ukraine since undergoing cancer treatment. The performance took place in Kyiv, where she opened the show with the song 'Angel.' This pivotal career milestone was made possible by the unwavering support of her husband, Chris Saavedra, who is accompanying her on this trip. The couple has been together for 12 years, and Newton emphasized that they feel 'like one person,' believing their union was destined.

Newton first rose to fame after competing in Eurovision 2011, where she secured fourth place. She has recently voiced strong support for Ukraine and its Armed Forces. This marks only Chris’s third visit to Ukraine; the last time the couple was in the country was January 2024. A second concert is scheduled for June 27, 2024, in Odesa.

Emotion and Gratitude

“The emotions are incredible. I feel like a truly lucky person just to be alive. I had a very rare form of cancer, and I might not have made it. So I’m simply a happy person who was able to step on stage and connect with the people of Kyiv. For me, this is a real honor.” – Mika Newton

These words highlight her deep gratitude for the chance to return to performing and to reconnect with a Ukrainian audience.

On a lighter note, the singer also shared that Chris is a big fan of varenyky (Ukrainian dumplings), though she admits she does not do the cooking herself. Through both her personal and professional visits, Mika Newton continues to actively champion Ukrainian culture and express her affection for the country.

Mika Newton’s return to the stage in Ukraine marks a symbolic moment—not just in her personal journey, but for the broader Ukrainian cultural scene. After a grueling battle with illness and in light of her outspoken solidarity with Ukraine, her performances stand as a source of inspiration for many. She is increasingly weaving elements of Ukrainian culture into her shows, underscoring her deep connection to the nation and its people.
