Canada has raised the minimum wage to 17.75 CAD: how much Ukrainian migrants earn now

Canada continues to be an attractive country for Ukrainian migrants. With a stable economy, a high standard of living, and a well-organized social security system, more and more compatriots are drawn here. Additionally, in 2025, Canadians were pleased: the minimum wage has increased.

Minimum wage in Canada

According to Daily Hive, as of August 2025, workers in Canada can expect an updated minimum wage.

The last increase in the minimum wage in Canada occurred on April 1, 2025. The federal level rose to 17.75 Canadian dollars per hour, which is 0.45 CAD more than before - 17.30 CAD. This places approximately 26 thousand workers in sectors under federal control, such as transportation, banks, and postal services, at a new economic level.

The previous increase in the minimum wage is promised for next year - if inflation remains under control.

Regional changes in working conditions

In 2025, several provinces of Canada will also raise the minimum wage. For example:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador - 16.00 CAD/hour;
  • Nunavut will remain the leader with a rate of 19.00 CAD/hour.

If in any province the minimum wage is higher than the federal one, the employer is required to adhere to the most favorable conditions for the employee.

Why Canada constantly raises the minimum wage

The main goal is to match the rising prices and cost of living. The Canadian government fights for economic equality and better working conditions for everyone.

The increase in the minimum wage contributes to a better work-life balance and also allows for social benefits provided by the state. Previously, we reminded that the minimum wage is a set average nationwide level of payment that does not depend on the type of enterprise or its ownership.

The increase in the minimum wage opens new prospects for workers from Ukraine who are looking to Canada for an improved quality of life and career growth.
