Minimum Wage in Poland and Germany - What Will the Amounts Be in August.
Due to the war, many Ukrainians have been forced to leave the country. The most of our citizens have been accepted by Poland and Germany - currently, millions of Ukrainians live and work in these countries.
The minimum wage is the lowest permissible level of remuneration for labor, which is determined by law and is mandatory for all employers. It is established for both monthly and hourly work and cannot be lower than the threshold set by the state. Most often, minimum wages are received by workers engaged in physical labor or those who do not require special training.
How Much Workers Are Paid in Poland
Since 2022, Poland has become a second home for many Ukrainian citizens. A significant portion of them have found jobs in this country. Starting from January 2025, the minimum wage level in Poland has been increased. The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Greater Poland Voivodeship Office in Poznan notes that according to the resolution of the Council of Ministers of Poland from September 12, 2024, it is 4,666 zlotys gross (about 53,597 UAH) per month or 30.50 zlotys (350 UAH) gross per hour.
It is worth noting that in Poland, wages are usually stated as 'gross' - before taxes and contributions are deducted. The worker actually receives 'net' - the amount after all mandatory deductions. In Poland, the following contributions are deducted from wages:
- deductions for healthcare (NFZ);
- income tax paid by every officially employed person;
- social insurance contributions (ZUS), which cover pension provision, sick leave, and insurance in case of loss of ability to work.
How Much They Will Pay in Germany in 2025
According to the Studying-in-Germany portal, in Germany, starting from the beginning of 2025, the hourly minimum wage has been increased to 12.82 euros (about 626 UAH), which equals the minimum monthly salary of 2,222 euros (108,620 UAH) gross for full-time employees.
Over the last decade, Germany has steadily increased minimum wages almost every year. Since the Minimum Wage Act came into force in January 2015, this figure has increased by 50% by 2025, with no decrease at any point.
Earlier, we wrote that in 2026, the minimum wage in Ukraine will only increase by 688 UAH - it will be 8,688 UAH. But even such an increase is unlikely to cover basic expenses for housing, food, and other necessary services.
We also reported that from July 1, 2025, several states in the USA increased the minimum wage per hour. The changes will affect approximately 880,000 hired workers in regions such as Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia.
Ukrainians who go abroad for work are actively interested in questions about minimum wages and working conditions in the countries they are heading to. This data helps them make informed decisions and plan their future. For example, considering the increase in minimum wage in Germany and Poland, Ukrainian workers can better understand what prospects await them in these European countries.
