Ukraine received $300 million for the energy system: how UNDP is helping to survive attacks.
According to inkorr.com: The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk, met with the UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, Auke Lotsma, his deputy Christoforos Politidis, and the head of the environmental and energy group, Roman Shakhmatenko. They discussed the main needs of Ukraine's energy sector amid constant Russian attacks.
“Among our priorities are increasing the volumes of backup equipment, accumulating sufficient reserves of energy resources, as well as enhancing the protection of facilities - from installing anti-drone nets to more complex engineering structures,” said Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Assistance from UNDP
Svitlana Hrynchuk emphasized that energy is one of the key areas of support for Ukraine from UNDP. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the country has received significant assistance from partners, especially in the most difficult moments of escalation - in the form of equipment, technical support, and expert evaluation. Thanks to the support of UNDP and nine donors, nearly $300 million has been raised, which has strengthened the Ukrainian energy system after each Russian strike.
- UNDP is also providing significant assistance to Ukrainian regions.
- With the support of UNDP, more than 475.1 MW of generating capacity has already been installed in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Lviv.
The Minister of Energy spoke about the important steps that need to be taken to support the energy sector amid Russian attacks, and expressed gratitude to UNDP and donors for their significant support and assistance.
