More than half of adult consumers unknowingly purchased products that had already expired in supermarkets. A study conducted among 2000 adults showed that annually, 11.8 billion pounds worth of food is wasted in the UK.The average adult throws away food worth £17.90 each month, totaling around £214.27 per year.According to The Sun:
