IMF does not demand devaluation of the hryvnia: exclusive statement by a member of the NBU Council

According to inkorr.com: Vasyl Furman, a member of the National Bank of Ukraine Council, stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not attempt to influence the NBU or demand the devaluation of the hryvnia. According to him, the National Bank independently determines the exchange rate, and the relationship with the IMF is one of partnership, not under pressure.

'Only the National Bank can define Ukraine's exchange rate policy,' Furman stressed.

The economist also noted that the agreement with the IMF regarding 'increasing the flexibility of the exchange rate' does not imply devaluation, but aims to reduce the risks of exchange rate fluctuations and strengthen the economy against external challenges.

Stability in the currency market

Furman is confident that the currency market will remain under control and stable, as international reserves may reach about 54 billion dollars by the end of the year.

The expert also urged not to perceive the exchange rate as a target indicator for the NBU, emphasizing that it is merely a technical means for converting income. He believes that the country's economy will continue to develop steadily despite strong fluctuations in the hryvnia exchange rate.

Vasyl Furman assured that the National Bank of Ukraine independently controls the exchange rate and collaborates with the IMF on principles of partnership, without pressure for devaluation of the hryvnia. The government predicts that the currency market will remain stable due to significant NBU reserves and a balanced policy regarding the economic situation.

These comments highlight the importance of the independence of the National Bank in forming the currency policy of the country. In light of international financial challenges, partnership with the IMF may become a key factor for Ukraine's economic stability, especially in conditions of global economic instability.
