The Ministry of Internal Affairs denies the fake about the increase in fines for traffic violations: current rates.
According to inkorr.com: The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine officially denied the information about the increase in fines for traffic violations on September 16. The First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, confirmed in Telegram that this information is false.
The Ministry noted that rumors about increasing fines for such offenses as driving without a license, speeding, driving under the influence, or running a red light are unfounded. This fake is actively spreading on the internet.
Situation with fines
In 2025, legislation regarding traffic rules and fines has not changed. The amounts of penalties have remained unchanged since March 2021, when Law No. 2695 came into force.
Most common violations and their fines:
- Speeding: 20+ km/h, but less than 50 km/h — 340 UAH; 50+ km/h — 1700 UAH
- Running a red light: 680 UAH
- Driving without a license: 3400 UAH
- Lack of OSAGO: 425 UAH
- Not wearing a seatbelt: 510 UAH
Severe punishments for drunken driving
The harshest penalties are provided for driving under the influence of alcohol:
- first offense — 17,000 UAH with a one-year driving ban
- repeat offense within a year — 34,000 UAH with a three-year license suspension
- third offense within a year — 51,000 UAH, car confiscation, and a ten-year driving ban
This is not the first case of spreading false information about the increase in fines in 2025. Since July 1, 2025, rumors about new fines for traffic violations have been circulating in Ukraine, allegedly with two- or threefold increases in amounts.
On June 11, some media claimed that new rules for liability for traffic violations would come into force from July 1, 2025, but this information has also been officially denied.
Draft laws in the Verkhovna Rada
There are indeed draft laws in the Verkhovna Rada proposing an increase in liability for violations. Draft law No. 13314, which provides for changes to fines, was registered on May 26, 2025, and is currently on the website of the Verkhovna Rada in the status of 'Provided for review'.
The document proposes a new system of fines for speeding:
- more than 10 km/h — 340 UAH
- more than 20 km/h — 680 UAH
- more than 30 km/h — 1360 UAH
- more than 40 km/h — 1700 UAH
- more than 60 km/h — 2720 UAH
- more than 80 km/h — 3400 UAH
Thus, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has denied rumors about increasing fines for traffic violations in 2025. Fines remain at the level established in 2021, and the draft law on changes to fines for speeding has not yet come into effect.
