According to The Sun: Police officers detained a mysterious driver of a phantom Formula 1 racing car, who appeared on Czech autobahns in original racing gear with a helmet.

The red racing car had been spotted on Czech autobahns several times since 2019.

A video that emerged on Sunday morning shows this car speeding down the D4 autobahn and stopping for refueling.

The police tracked the car to a residential area in the village of Buk, located about 60 km south of Prague.

A 51-year-old man in a red racing suit and helmet was detained at home.

Local media published a video showing him arguing with police and refusing to exit the vehicle.

“I will not get out, you are violating my private property,” he stated.

After some time, he eventually surrendered and was taken to the police station, where he refused to answer questions, according to local media reports.

The man, who was indicated as his son, told reporters that about two dozen police cars and a helicopter arrived at their home, calling it “an overreaction to a supposed traffic violation.”

The online car was often mistakenly described as a “Formula 1 Ferrari.” But a 2022 article on auto.cz claims that it is actually a Dallara GP2/08 — a racing car manufactured by the Italian company Dallara.

This car was intended to participate in the GP2 Series, an open racing championship launched in 2005 to prepare for Formula 1.

The man faces fines for driving a car on the autobahn without headlights, turn signals, and license plates.

There is also a risk of suspension of his driving rights.

The mystical driver first attracted attention in 2019 when videos and images of this car appeared online, prompting police to launch an investigation.

However, the man denied driving the car during the filming.

Since he was wearing a helmet, police could not identify him or bring charges against him.

It is currently unknown if this is the same man who has now been detained.

In 2022, social media users actively discussed videos of the racing car speeding down the autobahn. One user wrote, “I will go get milk in a Formula 1 car.”

“Not all heroes wear capes,” another added.

This unusual situation sparked lively discussions in society and the media, as the appearance of such a car on the autobahn made many rethink safety and traffic rules. The phantom driver became a symbol of questions regarding the legality and appropriateness of such behavior on the roads.
