NABU prepares searches in the Ministry of Defense over inflated prices for body armor.
According to inkorr.com: The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will soon be subjected to searches conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) due to suspicions of inflated prices for military procurements. This was reported by the publication Politico.
According to the information received, NABU is preparing for searches at the military department. The main goal of these actions is to verify possible abuses during the conclusion of contracts for the supply of military equipment during the leadership of Rustem Umerov.
Abuses during procurements at the Ministry of Defense
One of the episodes that caught the investigators' interest was the procurement of body armor. The investigation revealed the supply of low-quality products at inflated prices. There are also suspicions regarding the influence of businessman Timur Mindich on the decisions of the Ministry of Defense.
The investigation is ongoing, and NABU employees intend to gain access to internal documents related to procurements to clarify all details of possible violations.
Criminal scheme in the energy sector
In addition, earlier NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) discovered a criminal scheme in the energy sector led by Timur Mindich, a former partner of the president. Members of this organization pressured 'Energoatom' to make payments to avoid blocking financial operations.
The scheme also involved Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrinchuk, and other officials. During the searches of the current ministers and businessman Mindich, who left the country before the investigation began, significant evidence was found.
NABU's actions indicate an intensification of the fight against corruption in the state structures of Ukraine.
As a result of the investigations, suspicions of abuses in procurements at the Ministry of Defense have been revealed, and testimonies of criminal schemes in the energy sector, managed by a former partner of the president, have been obtained. These events indicate the determination of Ukrainian law enforcement authorities to counter corruption in state institutions.
