Former Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshov Taken into Custody: Details of the Midas Case

According to inkorr.com: The National Anti-Corruption Bureau, together with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, has submitted a motion to the court for the arrest of former Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov. According to media reports, the investigation has established that Chernyshov visited a 'laundry' - a place where criminal proceeds were legalized, controlled by the leader of a criminal organization previously exposed by NABU and SAP.

Detectives found that Chernyshov and his trusted person received more than 1.2 million US dollars in cash and nearly 100 thousand euros. The criminal case is qualified under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is not the first accusation against Chernyshov; he is already involved in another case related to abuse of power and bribery.

Operation 'Midas' and Its Results

The Chernyshov case is part of the 'Midas' operation, which has been conducted by NABU and SAP for more than 15 months. Detectives established that the criminal organization in the energy sector demanded kickbacks of 10-15% of the contract value from the counterparties of 'Energoatom'. Businessman Timur Mindich, co-owner of 'Kvartal 95' studio and former business partner of President Zelensky, is considered the leader of this scheme.

The situation gained political attention when the President of Ukraine referred the issue of sanctions to the National Security and Defense Council, where three of the individuals involved in this case are present. After that, the Ministers of Justice and Energy resigned. According to the investigation, five out of twelve individuals who are under investigation have been detained.

NABU and SAP filed a motion with the court for the arrest of Oleksiy Chernyshov in connection with suspicions of involvement in the legalization of criminal proceeds and other corruption crimes. The Chernyshov case is just one of many revealed within the framework of the 'Midas' operation, which has caused a political resonance and impacted the government composition.

This case underscores the importance of fighting corruption in Ukraine, where anti-corruption agencies continue to expose criminal schemes at a high level. The 'Midas' investigation may mark a turning point in the cleansing of state institutions, but real change will require efforts not only from law enforcement but also from society as a whole.
