Tank Crew Training in Kharkiv Region: Inside the Exercises of the National Guard’s 'Skif' Unit.
Intensive Tank Training at the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif'
According to UATV: The National Guard of Ukraine is currently conducting tank crew training exercises in the Kharkiv region, specifically within the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif'. These sessions focus on maneuverability, live-fire drills, and team coordination among crews. The T-64 tanks serve as the primary training vehicles, allowing soldiers to refine their skills under diverse operational conditions.
A 42-year-old tank commander with the call sign 'Burya' emphasized the critical nature of this training, stating:
'This is essential to be prepared for any surprises' — tank commander 'Burya'.
Another participant, a soldier known as 'Toretto', brings 30 years of driving experience to the exercises. He shared his personal concerns, noting: 'My biggest fear was letting others down, since I’m not a military professional but a civilian'. His remarks highlight the dedication and sense of responsibility among those who, despite their civilian backgrounds, choose to serve in the armed forces.
The Role of the 'Skif' Tank Platoon
The 'Skif' tank platoon of the National Guard was established two years ago and has since been actively deployed on the North-Slobozhansk front. These training sessions are a vital step in preparing tank operators, as repetitive drills help develop automatic movements and build muscle memory. As one soldier with the call sign 'Loki' explained:
'Repetition is key—so these actions become mechanical, ingrained in muscle memory' — soldier 'Loki'.
Overall, the training at the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif' enhances the combat readiness of tank crews, equipping them with the necessary skills for battlefield missions. Given the current challenges facing Ukraine, such exercises are crucial for maintaining high efficiency and cohesion within military units, which in turn strengthens the country’s overall defense capabilities.
