Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a phone call to French President Emmanuel Macron on September 5, 2024. He informed about this in his official address.

Zelensky congratulated Macron on the appointment of the new Prime Minister of France, Michel Barnier. The French leader expressed condolences for the Russian strikes that damaged cities in Ukraine, including Lviv and Poltava.

Prior to the meeting of the contact group in the 'Ramstein' format, the leaders discussed further defense cooperation. Zelensky emphasized the need to obtain permission from partners to strike at airfields from which Russian planes take off with cruise missiles and bombs.

Zelensky informed Macron about Ukraine's urgent need for air defense means, electronic warfare, armored vehicles, and artillery. They also discussed the possibility of joint production of some types of weapons and the preparation of a new package of military aid from France.

The leaders agreed on further contacts regarding the implementation of the bilateral security agreement and the Ukraine Security Compact mechanism.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine highly appreciates France's support in defending the lives of Ukrainians and hopes for further cooperation in holding Russia accountable for its crimes.
