"Time to talk": Finnish President comments on peaceful negotiations regarding Ukraine.
Finnish President, Alexander Stubb, stated that it is Time to start negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the war.
Stubb emphasized that this does not mean that Ukraine needs to make concessions.
"Ukraine is now in a much stronger position than two months ago," the president said.
Stubb also noted that Ukraine has received necessary equipment and resources for its Armed Forces from its partners. He also emphasized that Russia is not moving forward and has significant losses.
"According to our intelligence, Russia is not moving forward and its losses have become even greater than before," Stubb said.
The President of Finland stressed that the key elements for successful negotiations are resolving the issue of occupied territories, security guarantees from partners, a court for Russian military criminals, and support in the country's recovery.
Stubb pointed out that it is important to distinguish between the negotiation process and achieving peace. He emphasized that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine is a necessary step towards achieving peace, but cannot be a precondition for the start of negotiations.
"We must convince the Global South that what Russia is doing is imperialism. It is in their interest to end this conflict." He added: "If Xi Jinping wanted to stop the war, he could call Putin and say: 'Enough'," Stubb concluded.
It is worth noting that during a visit to China, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, held talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which also related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
