Borrell calls on the EU to allow Ukraine to strike Russia.
The EU urges Ukraine to attack distant targets in Russia
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell has called on European Union countries to allow Ukraine to strike targets far from the border in Russia, reports Deutsche Welle. On Monday, November 18, before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, he stated: 'Ukraine must use the provided weapons not only to stop the fire but also to hit the archers.'
On the eve, the USA allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles against Russian territory. President Joe Biden lifted restrictions on the use of American weaponry, which was confirmed in the White House.
On the issue of weapon supplies, EU countries have different positions. In particular, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refuses to transfer TAURUS cruise missiles to Kyiv. Meanwhile, representatives of the 'Greens' party are more supportive. Robert Habeck stated that if elected Chancellor, he would provide Ukraine with TAURUS missiles.
The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock supported Biden's decision, emphasizing the importance of preempting attacks and destroying the enemy's military infrastructure.
