The country of Iceland is famed for its incredibly beautiful landscapes, but among these winding glaciers and powerful volcanoes, dangers also lurk. One of the dangerous spots for tourists is the Reynisfjara Beach, known for its black sand and hazardous waves that have already claimed the lives of many people. This is reported by IFLScience.

This extraordinary yet dangerous beach is located on the southern coast of Iceland. It has even gained popularity thanks to the series "Game of Thrones", attracting even more visitors. The black color of the sand is explained by volcanic eruptions, which break into small pieces of basalt.

However, the main danger of this beach is sneaker waves or rogue waves. They disguise themselves among ordinary waves but suddenly rush to the shore, greatly exceeding it more than it might seem at first glance. If a person is too close to the water, the wave can sweep them away, and then the strong current drags them from the shore into the open sea.

From 2014 to 2022, there were 12 serious incidents at this beach, 5 of which ended fatally. Local authorities have set up warning signs and a traffic light system to alert people to the level of danger. However, unfortunately, many tourists ignore these warnings and risk their lives just for the sake of taking fascinating photos.
