NBU on the departure of men: why it does not threaten Ukraine's labor market

According to inkorr.com:

Deputy Head of the NBU Serhiy Nikolaychuk answered questions about the impact of the departure of young men abroad on migration forecasts at a press briefing. The National Bank predicts that the number of Ukrainians abroad will increase by 200,000 people by 2025.

Serhiy Nikolaychuk noted that the departure of young men aged 18-22 will practically not affect the availability of labor resources and will not create serious problems for the labor market.

NBU forecast and the impact of decisions on free border crossing on the labor market

In July, the National Bank published a forecast regarding migration outflows from Ukraine until 2025. As of early October, 41% of Ukrainian employers noted that the decision on unhindered departure for men aged 18-22 has affected job vacancy fill rates. It is reported that a well-known German politician even proposed a ban on the entry of young Ukrainians.

Research has shown that the departure of youth abroad does not have a decisive influence on migration trends in Ukraine. Even the decision on unhindered departure for a specific category of individuals has a limited impact on the labor market. Although the number of Ukrainians leaving for abroad is increasing, it does not hinder the stable development of the economy and society as a whole.

These results indicate that, despite the observed changes in migration processes, the Ukrainian labor market proves more resilient to external influences than expected. The NBU forecasts emphasize that the economy continues to adapt, responding to new challenges.
