Rocket Oreshnik: Why Russia Will Not Be Able to Carry Out Mass Strikes With It

According to ТСН: Russia is unlikely to regularly use the Oreshnik rocket, despite information about its innovation and mass production. The main reasons for doubt are limited production rates, technical issues, and low effectiveness of the rocket without a nuclear charge.

Limited Production Capabilities

An expert from Ukraine believes that the first restraining factor is Russia's production capabilities.

“According to reports from Ukrainian intelligence, the Russians can produce about 10 units of these rockets per year under the best circumstances,” emphasized Zhmailyo.

Technical Risks and Combat Effectiveness

The second problem pointed out by the expert is the technical risks of the rocket itself, which raise concerns about its frequent use by Russia.

“One of their fears is that the Oreshnik may not reach its target or break apart in the air. If that happens, the effect of psychological pressure in the geopolitical sphere will be neutralized,” he noted.

Zhmailyo also reminded that serious malfunctions occurred during the rocket tests in Kapustin Yar, including a detonation that led to the death of personnel involved in the launch.

The third reason, in his opinion, is the combat effectiveness of the Oreshnik without a nuclear charge.

“The Oreshnik without a nuclear charge is a powerful but ineffective weapon in the context of applying pressure to our rear and destroying energy infrastructure,” Zhmailyo emphasized.

He also pointed out that the consequences of being hit by this rocket are much lower than expected in the Russian Federation, while other types of weapons cause significantly greater damage to Ukraine.

“Kalibrs,” “Kinzhal,” and all Russian ballistic and aeroballistic munitions flying over Ukrainian territory cause much greater destruction,” said the expert.

According to Zhmailyo's assessment, Russia can still use the Oreshnik, but it is unlikely to become a systematic practice.

“Russia can still carry out strikes with the Oreshnik. However, it cannot be said that this will become a practice during enemy airstrikes,” Zhmailyo concluded.

It should be noted that Russia first struck with the Oreshnik rocket in the Lviv region. The president stated that the attack was symbolic and took place near the borders of the European Union. The Ukrainian Armed Forces urge not to underestimate the enemy, emphasizing that Russia continues to develop its weaponry and enhance its technological capabilities.

Thus, despite the presence of new developments, Russia faces serious problems in their implementation. Limited production capacities, technical failures, and the ineffectiveness of new rockets cast doubt on their role in the country's strategic arsenal. Experts believe that Russia must seek alternative ways to modernize its weapons to keep pace with military technologies.
