Nestle is again changing the packaging of Quality Street: what awaits buyers in 2024.
Changes in Quality Street
According to The Sun: NESTLÉ is again making significant changes to the packaging of Quality Street candies, which has divided opinions among buyers.
This year, iconic Christmas chocolate candies will be sold in paper packaging.
The new packages feature a 'resealable' mechanism, ensuring a tight closure even after opening.Eco-friendly octagonal packages will appear in selected Tesco stores starting in October, reports The Sun.
A Nestlé representative stated:
“We are pleased to confirm that Quality Street is bringing back paper packaging in selected Tesco stores this Christmas.”
He also added:
“The brand continues to evaluate the popularity of the packaging among buyers, considering innovative ways to enhance the sustainability of its packaging.”
Different reactions from buyers
The company first introduced the new packaging last Christmas, and this change has evoked various reactions from buyers.
One social media user commented:
“Just remember how low we've fallen as a nation.”
Another remarked that this decision has taken away
“the spark and joy of Christmas.”
Only a few buyers positively rated this initiative from the company.
“Great job, Nestlé,”– reported one customer last year.
It is worth noting that buyers can still purchase regular plastic packages if that is convenient for them.
Additional changes
This year, Quality Street has also reduced the size of its purple packages from 600g to 550g.
The new packages contain approximately 57 candies – six less than before.
A Nestlé representative explained that the reason for the change is
“production costs, ingredients, and transportation.”
The manufacturer of Celebrations, Mars, has also reduced the size of its famous red packaging from 550g to 500g, which resulted in a reduction of about five candies.
This is already the second consecutive year that the company is reducing the sizes of holiday treats.
Last year, the packages with mini pieces of Twix, Milkyway, and Bounty were also reduced from 600g to 550g.
Nestlé plans to make all its packaging recyclable by 2025.
These changes in the quality and packaging of Quality Street candies are part of a global trend towards reducing environmental impact. The brand aims to meet consumer demands and modern sustainability standards. Concurrently, the reduction in package sizes, noticed by buyers, reflects the challenges manufacturers face in today's economic situation.
