Closure of New Look stores

According to The Sun: New Look intends to close more than ten of its stores by the end of 2025.

It will soon be announced that another store will close, which will be a serious blow to the retail streets.

The company has undergone a series of restructurings in recent years

It is known that the store in Scarborough will close on September 17. Also, in the coming weeks, the New Look store in Brunswick Center will close. Recently, another store in Wales closed in August.

Thus, this year, 13 stores have been closed in the UK, and another 26 in Ireland.

According to information on their website, the popular chain has 338 stores in the UK.

The first New Look store that closed in 2025 is the branch in Wickford, Essex. After 15 years of operation, it closed on January 24, and it has not yet been replaced by a new one.

Store closures across the country

Among other closures are stores in Loughborough, St Austell, Cornwall, and Team Valley Retail World in Gateshead.

The company has undergone restructuring twice in the last six years, reducing its presence on the streets from 600 to 338 stores over five years.

The reason for the closures is believed to be related to rising labor costs and national insurance, which were announced in October 2024 by Finance Minister Rachel Reeves.

“Our store portfolio is an important part of our business, alongside our best website and app.”
“This omnichannel approach allows us to best serve our 10 million customers, regardless of how they want to shop.”

The company also clarified that 'we recently invested over £3 million in our stores in Greater Manchester to test new omnichannel initiatives aimed at improving customer service.'

“We also continue to invest in our successful online platform, which has resulted in high volumes of online sales, significantly exceeding last year's figures.”

The closure of New Look stores occurs against the backdrop of an overall trend of declining retail, observed worldwide. Many brands are forced to adapt to new economic conditions, including changing consumer habits and rising costs. This also underscores the importance of investing in online sales, which remain critical for the survival of retail companies.
