Newcastle signs striker Wissa from Brentford for £55 million.
Transfer of Yoane Wissa to Newcastle
According to The Sun: Eddie Howe, Newcastle's manager, has finally got a new striker — the club has completed the transfer of Yoane Wissa from Brentford for £55 million on the last day of the transfer window.
The 28-year-old striker from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has signed a four-year contract at St James' Park and realized his dream of playing in the Champions League following tense relations with Brentford.
GettyWissa, along with new signing Nick Woltemade, who became the club's record transfer by moving from Stuttgart for £69 million, will be tasked with filling the vacant position after Alexander Isak moved to Liverpool for £130 million.
The arrival of Wissa marks the end of a challenging summer for Howe, as Newcastle failed to sign Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and Benjamin Sesko in their search for a new forward.
Wissa concluded his extremely productive spell at Brentford, scoring 49 goals in 149 matches. Initially, he left the team's preseason camp in Portugal and trained separately, removing references to the club on Instagram, trying to expedite his transfer.
“It was unacceptable that the club was blocking my desire to move to Newcastle,” said Wissa in an official statement.
This led Newcastle's management to reopen negotiations with Brentford. After several rejected offers, the clubs reached an agreement on a transfer package worth £50 million with a potential additional £5 million.
Wissa, who traveled from London to the north of the country by car, arrived at Newcastle's training center 'Darsley Park' ahead of lunch to undergo a medical examination and sign the contract.

“I am very happy to be here and sign a contract with one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League,” added Wissa. “I am very, very excited to wear the black and white colors. I have dreams, I have faith, and now I will do everything possible to make it all happen. I cannot wait to get started.”
Wissa and his new teammate Woltemade will soon head off on international duty, before returning to training with their new partners, preparing for anticipated debuts in the home match against Wolverhampton on September 13.
Meanwhile, Wissa's arrival nearly led to forward William Osula moving to Eintracht, but the £30 million deal fell through.
The transfer of Yoane Wissa to Newcastle highlights the club's ambitions to strengthen their squad ahead of important matches in the Champions League. With the addition of new players, Wissa has great potential to become an important part of the team, hoping to help the club reach new heights in British football.
