Newcastle delays the construction of a new stadium: What the owners are focusing on.
News from Newcastle about the stadium
According to The Sun: The plans of the football club Newcastle United for the construction of a new stadium to replace St James’ Park are currently suspended due to the clarification of other business matters of the club.
The owners of the team, who came from Saudi Arabia in 2021, have been discussing the idea of a new stadium since their arrival.
Of course, the plans for the new stadium at the site of the adjacent Leazes Park were supposed to be presented earlier this year, but the deadlines have been postponed.
Currently, these plans have been postponed again until the club arranges its affairs in other areas.
According to Daily Mail, the owners are focusing on other important issues, such as appointing a new CEO, a sporting director, and creating a new training center.
The first steps in these areas have already been taken: the club announced last week the appointment of David Hopkinson as the new CEO.
This CEO has previously worked with renowned clubs, including Real Madrid, and was most recently president and COO of the company that runs the businesses of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers in the USA.
Reports suggest that the sporting director Nottingham Forest Ross Wilson will likely take up his position in the northeast to tackle the second issue.
This happened after the previous sporting director Paul Mitchell decided to leave the club in June before the summer transfer window.
Delays with the stadium
The delay seems to be related precisely to this issue, as Newcastle has yet to find a suitable plot for development. One proposal has even not been realized.
The issues with the new stadium have not disappeared, as the club is trying to establish itself in the Champions League.
The team is currently preparing for the match against Barcelona, which will take place on Thursday in the stadium that can accommodate 52,000 spectators.
La Blaugrana is also facing difficulties due to the renovation of its stadium, which is associated with numerous delays.
Newcastle aims to become one of the leading clubs in Europe, which is why the current personnel changes and work on the new stadium are important steps in this direction. Expanding the club's infrastructure, along with successful performances on the pitch, can significantly strengthen its position in international sports. At the same time, the club's plans for a new stadium remain in the background for now, but their implementation could provide a strong impetus for development. Read also
