Newcastle missed out on Leonie to Liverpool: offered more money but lost.
Negotiations between Newcastle and Liverpool
According to The Sun: Newcastle turned down an offer for Giovanni Leonie before he signed with Liverpool, despite offering more money.
The team faced setbacks again in a challenging transfer window.

Eddie Howe had to wait until the closing day of the window to confirm the signing of new forward Yoann Vissi, who will partner with Nick Walton. At the same time, the team lost Alexander Isak in the final stages of the transfer period.
Newcastle succumbed to Liverpool's pressure and allowed their players to leave the club for £130 million.
Liverpool became a serious competitor in the transfer market, notably intercepting the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Newcastle.
Now, Parma's CEO Federico Cherubini has reported that they also took center-back Leonie from the 'Magpies', despite a lower offer.
“We turned down Newcastle's higher offer for Leonie. But plans changed with Liverpool.
“The reason is that the offer was very appealing, and Giovanni made it clear that he wants to join Liverpool.”
Leonie, 18, moved to Anfield for £26 million after an impressive debut season in Parma. He was praised by Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo, who commented on the young man's move: “I am very happy for him. He is a fantastic guy, and I was sure he would end up in Serie A. He deserves it.”

Last month, he added: “If anyone doubts starting him from the first minute, I have no concerns.
“I see him every day in training. He plays like a mature person, and I am sure he will become a strong football player.”
