Nik Woltemade scored his first goal for Germany: how it happened

According to The Sun: Nik Woltemade and Dan Ballard found themselves in an awkward situation after the forward scored his first goal for the German national team in a match against Northern Ireland.

The new Newcastle player, for whom the club paid £69 million, finally opened his goal account for the national team, securing a 1-0 victory in the World Cup qualifying match in Belfast.

For Woltemade, it was a cause for celebration, while for defender Ballard, it was an evening of disappointments: his first strike was canceled due to offside, and later he failed to stop the opponent.

Soon after the match at Windsor Park, Ballard accidentally ran into Woltemade on an EasyJet flight returning from Belfast International Airport to Newcastle at 10:40.

Interestingly, their next meeting will have to wait two months until Newcastle visits Sunderland's stadium on December 13 for the Wear-Tyne derby.

Woltemade's goal and emotions

Despite an impressive start for Woltemade in the team – four goals in seven matches, the 23-year-old player was seriously criticized in Germany for his lack of goals in the first five games for the national team.

He expressed his relief: 'It was very important for me to score my first international goal. I was not satisfied with my performances for Germany,' he said.

'Unfortunately, it happened that I scored the goal with my shoulder. It wasn’t a good game, but we need to win such matches,' added Nik.

The footballer also emphasized how important this moment is: 'It means a lot. It sounds very nice to score a goal for the national team, especially for the senior team.' He acknowledged that he felt pressure from the media due to his goal drought.

Now that the 'monkey is off his back', Woltemade is eager to continue scoring in the upcoming matches against Luxembourg and Slovakia to help the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Comments from friends and colleagues

Liverpool player Florian Wirtz could not influence the game against Northern Ireland. But his national team mate David Raum believes he will find his game. 'They are both incredible players. I am sure Florian will show his quality,' said Raum.

'I am happy for Nik. He will continue to score for Newcastle and will be an important player for our team,' he emphasized.

Highlighting Woltemade's success, it is worth noting how important such moments are for players on the international stage. This not only boosts their personal reputation but also strengthens team spirit. The qualification process for the 2026 World Cup has already begun, and every goal, every achievement can be crucial for the German team on this journey.
