The son of Shark Hanlon becomes jockey for Nick Henderson: details of the transfer

According to The Sun: Nick Henderson, the renowned trainer from Seven Barrows, announced a new jockey, selecting the son of a rival whom he considers 'very talented', ahead of the new racing season.

The legendary trainer was stunned when his horse Shishkin lost in 2023 at King George, while the horses of Hevick, under the guidance of Shark Hanlon, unexpectedly claimed the title.

However, that is now in the past. The trainers have agreed that 18-year-old Paddy Hanlon, Shark's son, will join Henderson's team at his base in Berkshire.

Paddy has already made a mark in competitions, receiving 7lbs for his victory at Downpatrick last month.

His first victory in Great Britain came in June 2023, when he claimed a title in Worcester.

In his performances on his father's horses, he showcased talents, winning on the stable star Hevick in March.

These skills have not gone unnoticed by Henderson.

He adds 'very talented' Paddy to a team where jockeys like Nico de Boinville, James Bowen, and fellow Freddy Gordon have already made their mark.

On Racing TV, Paddy commented: “We won’t have many horses in the winter, so I decided to take a risk and move to another place.”
“It’s fantastic — to be part of the stable, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“Nick is a Hall of Fame trainer, and he’s been one of the best for a long time.”

Shark confirmed the news during a recent visit to Henderson's base, where horses such as Constitution Hill, Sir Gino, and Luluab are gearing up for the season.

The Irish trainer, who contributed immensely to Rachel Blackmore’s rise, noted: “We spent an hour in a lovely conversation. I enjoyed how calm everything was at his stable.”

“He was very happy that Paddy would join him. He is only 18 and still has a lot to learn. I believe this is a great opportunity for Paddy to get into such a stable.”

This move of Paddy Hanlon to Nick Henderson's team highlights a new stage in his career, as he will work under one of the best trainers in the racing world. As the winter season commences, everyone is curious to see how the young jockey will cope with upcoming challenges and showcase his potential in major competitions.
