General Biletsky on NATO's Article 5: It is a myth, and only a strong Ukraine can deter Russia.
The commander of the army corps on Ukraine's security guarantees
According to ТСН: General Andriy Biletsky, head of the Third Army Corps, expressed doubt about the possibility of applying NATO's Article 5 as a guarantee of security for Ukraine.
In an interview on the YouTube channel 'Bombardir,' he emphasized that the agreements offered by the United States are not beneficial for Ukraine. The general noted:
'I don’t really believe in NATO's Article 5. Moreover, in the application of Article 5 to a country (of the Alliance - Ed.) - how will this work, who guarantees it. Furthermore, no one wants to read the fifth amendment. Each country determines the scope and nature of assistance in the event of an attack on another NATO country. It is a myth that this article forces all NATO countries to declare war, for example, on a country that has attacked some NATO country,' the military explained.
Biletsky also stressed that the only condition for deterring Russia is a strong Ukraine with a powerful army, a stable economy, and a united society. He emphasized that proposals to give up part of the territories, including Donbas, contradict the Constitution of Ukraine and are unacceptable from a moral standpoint.
The general refuted the stereotype about the 'vatniks' of Donbas, noting:
'There is a huge number of Ukrainian and pro-Ukrainian people here. I think this percentage can reach 50-60%. What will happen to them? Not to mention that a nation that allowed this once (to give up territories - Ed.) will necessarily experience this again,' the general concluded.
Additionally, previously NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed the readiness of European countries to send troops to Ukraine, but did not specify who exactly could do this.
The comments of General Biletsky reflect the realities in which Ukraine finds itself and raise questions about the effectiveness of international security guarantees. In the face of threats from Russia, it is important to understand that the strength of the state can be the best way to deter aggression. The position on territorial integrity and refusal to compromise remain key aspects of Ukraine's state policy that require support from international partners.
