Germany Strengthened Ukraine's Air Defense with Another IRIS-T Complex.
Germany Provided Ukraine with New Air Defense Systems
Germany has provided Ukraine with new IRIS-T air defense systems, including medium-range (SLM) and short-range (SLS) surface-to-air missile systems. This was reported by the head of the special staff on Ukraine issues in the German Ministry of Defense, Christian Freuding, in an interview with RND.
According to Freuding, last week Germany delivered an IRIS-T SLM battery along with two IRIS-T SLS launchers. He added that this year Germany will provide Ukraine with two more anti-aircraft systems. The German general also reported on the continued supply of light armored vehicles, main battle tanks, and a significant amount of artillery ammunition.
It is important to note that the IRIS-T SLM battery (medium-range air defense system) was co-financed by Norway on a German initiative.
IRIS-T is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system of German production, one of the most advanced air defense systems in Germany. The complex is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles. IRIS-T has already demonstrated its effectiveness in Ukraine, after which many countries ordered these systems for their air defense.
