Germany to Cease Benefit Payments: This Will Directly Affect Ukrainian Refugees

According to inkorr.com: In Germany, the government has made the decision to freeze social payments (Bürgergeld) until 2026. This decision will affect more than 5.6 million people who receive benefits, and they will not receive the expected increase next year.

The amount of basic assistance remains unchanged: 563 euros for single adults and from 357 to 471 euros for children. The authorities explained their decision by the slowdown of inflation and by acknowledging that the current level of assistance is excessive.

Alongside freezing benefits, the authorities plan to strengthen disciplinary measures for Bürgergeld recipients, specifically - reducing assistance for missing visits to employment centers and complete denial in case of refusal of work.

For Ukrainians who receive these payments in Germany, the new decision means that they will not receive indexing in 2026 and will also be subjected to increased sanctions in case of refusal of offered work. Moreover, new Ukrainian refugees who are entitled to benefits under the asylum seeker law already receive reduced amounts but can still expect an increase in payments in 2026.

Conclusion

According to the new decision of the German authorities, social payments for 2026 for over 5.6 million people will be frozen, which is related to the slowdown of inflation. Ukrainians in Germany will also feel the effects of these changes as they will have to deal with smaller amounts of assistance and increased job-search requirements.
