Penalty of one million hryvnias for artificial electricity deficit: who has been punished

According to inkorr.com: The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities plans to impose a fine of 1 million hryvnias on the company Enerhiya-1 LLC for inflating prices for balancing electricity during peak consumption. This company is associated with businessman Ihor Tynnyi.

Oleh Popenko, the head of the Union of Consumers of Utility Services, stated that the electricity market does not operate according to established rules due to manipulations. He believes that the upcoming fine confirms this problem.

This is how the 'electricity market' works, which does not follow the rules. When the market is not regulated by laws, it is regulated by manipulations. And here is further proof - the NCRECP plans to impose a fine of 1 million hryvnias on Enerhiya-1 LLC, which is linked with businessman Tynnyi.

The regulator established that the company was limiting applications for electricity sales during peak hours, creating an artificial deficit. This occurred during peak hours when the energy system was working at the edge of its capacities.

  • 10 PM to 11 PM and 11 PM to 12 AM on November 1
  • 6 PM to 7 PM on November 2
  • 6 PM to 7 PM and 11 PM to 12 AM on November 3

Popenko emphasized that such manipulations are the result of imperfect rules in the electricity market in Ukraine.

The scale of the problem in the electricity market may be significantly larger

An expert notes that the situation with the company linked to Ihor Tynnyi is only part of a larger problem. Given the activity of regional energy companies and traders in the energy sector, the issue may have a much broader nature.

Ihor Tynnyi has significant influence in 'green energy' and controls several companies in this sector. He is also involved in real estate, the restaurant business, waste removal, and garment manufacturing.

This case of imposing a fine on Enerhiya-1 LLC is another confirmation of the problems that exist in the Ukrainian electricity market. The lack of transparent and clear rules creates favorable conditions for price and supply manipulations, which can negatively affect consumers and the entire energy system of the country.
