At the border with Romania, smugglers with cigarettes worth 115 thousand hryvnias were detained.
According to inkorr.com: Recently, border guards of the Chernivtsi detachment detained a group of smugglers at the border with Romania. According to the press center of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), law enforcement received information about the planned illegal transportation of tobacco products across the state border in the area belonging to the 'Krasnoyilsk' department.
According to the SBGS report, the criminals first sent people with empty boxes to check for the presence of border patrols. After that, a second group with already filled packages followed.
However, the border guards timely understood the intentions of the criminals and set off for interception. During the detention, the offenders left their packages and attempted to escape. As a result of the pursuit, one of the criminals was detained.
During a subsequent check of the area, law enforcement found 4 empty boxes and 4 boxes of cigarettes without excise stamps. A total of 2 thousand packs of cigarettes worth about 115 thousand hryvnias were found.

The found cigarettes were transferred to the Bureau of Economic Security.

Operations were carried out jointly with representatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Chernivtsi region.
This incident highlights the ongoing work of Ukrainian border guards in combating smuggling. They actively respond to attempts of illegal transportation of goods across the border, as evidenced by successful detentions and confiscations of smuggled goods.
