Corruption scheme in Zelensky's entourage: how $100 million was laundered.
According to inkorr.com: A new wave of political scandals has emerged in Ukraine. Anti-corruption agencies have released numerous testimonies, including searches in luxurious apartments in Kyiv and photographs with cash, causing the biggest scandal during Volodymyr Zelensky's presidency. The situation is exacerbated by the war, as the country suffers daily losses in electricity supply due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
According to the Financial Times, during an investigation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), Zelensky's team tried to limit the independence of anti-corruption bodies in the summer. However, this step was canceled under pressure from protests and demands from Western partners.
Details of the corruption scheme
Recently published materials revealed possible details of the corruption scheme: 'kickbacks' for the construction of shelters for the energy sector and the laundering of tens of millions of dollars through business partners' offices. According to the investigation, about $100 million passed through this scheme.
'He controlled the operations of the so-called laundry where illegally obtained funds were laundered,' NABU reported about one of the key figures, businessman Timur Mindič.
After the publication of evidence, public outrage became widespread, and the government was forced to respond: to dismiss ministers and impose sanctions against the scheme's figures.
Possible consequences of the scandal
Experts note that the uncovering of corruption schemes may lead to a political crisis, creating significant risks in times of war. Parliament is considering holding a meeting to address corruption risks and is analyzing the actions of anti-corruption agencies in this situation.
'The situation convincingly demonstrates the transformation of Ukraine,' wrote the advisor to the head of the Office of the President Mykhailo Podolyak.
The opposition demands the creation of a technocratic unity government, emphasizing the importance of further investigation by NABU into the corruption schemes.
Currently, Ukraine is experiencing a new political turbulence against the backdrop of uncovering corruption schemes in the president's entourage, which has sparked public outrage. This may lead to a political crisis in the country, especially in the context of internal conflict. Parliament has reacted to the situation, but the further development of events remains uncertain.
