Expert: Ukraine's energy system is ready for winter without outages

According to inkorr.com: Energy expert Viktor Kurtev assures that the Ukrainian energy system is ready for the winter heating season and has the capacity to avoid power outages if the winter is average. He noted that the lost capacities have been restored and repair works are completed. The last nuclear unit is scheduled for repairs in the coming weeks, allowing for full electricity generation.

'Under average winter conditions, we will be able to go without outages. We might even have a slight energy surplus,'

— emphasized the expert. However, in case of prolonged severe frosts down to -15 to -20 degrees Celsius, a slight deficit may arise, which could possibly be compensated by importing electricity from the EU.

A New Tactic of Terror: From 'Dispersion' to Destruction

According to Kurtev, the biggest threat is the change in tactics of the Russian military in attacks on infrastructure. They now operate systematically and methodically, striking at facilities sequentially. This change may affect not only substations and the infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia but also electricity generation facilities.

'Now they are sequentially, methodically striking at the object,'

— explained the expert. This complicates the situation, as previous mistakes in protecting the energy system were not fully accounted for.

Therefore, the stability of electricity supply in Ukraine during the winter period of 2025-2026 will depend on the effectiveness of air defense and the ability to counter new, more concentrated tactics of Russian attacks.
