From November 19, packaging standards in Ukraine are changing: what to expect for consumers.
According to inkorr.com: Starting from November 19, 2025, a new law will come into effect in Ukraine that will significantly raise food safety standards. Now, all materials that come into contact with food, including packaging and dishes in restaurants, must comply with European safety standards.
Responsibilities of producers and importers
Producers and importers are required to adhere to food safety standards, monitor the content of chemicals in products, conduct risk assessments, and properly label packaging.
'Thus, businesses will have time for a planned replacement of packaging, and consumers will experience a gradual transition to safe materials. This decision will avoid a shortage of packaging materials and at the same time ensure compliance with safety requirements,' emphasized Serhiy Tkachenko, Head of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service.
The goal of the new standards
The main goal of the new legislation is to protect consumer health, harmonize Ukrainian standards with European ones, and ensure packaging safety for all. These changes will open up access for Ukrainian producers to European markets, where high quality requirements are the key to success.
Only by implementing new food safety norms will Ukraine be able to improve the quality and safety of consumer goods and help Ukrainian producers sell their products in international markets while complying with European standards.
