NYT: North Koreans suffered significant losses during the battle in Kursk region.
After the first battle with the Ukrainian defense forces, North Korean soldiers who were sent to the Kursk region of the Russian Federation suffered their first losses in the war. This information was published by The New York Times.
A Ukrainian official, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the combat actions were limited and might have been aimed at identifying weaknesses in the defense of Ukrainian forces. He also noted that North Korean soldiers fought alongside Russian marines.
It is currently unknown when exactly this battle took place, and information about the losses has also not been provided. An American official, who wished to remain unnamed, stated that "a significant number of North Korean military personnel were killed."
Although most North Korean military personnel sent to Russia have not yet participated in battles, Western and Ukrainian officials regard this appearance on the battlefield as a "significant escalation," according to the publication.
The Ukrainian official suggests that a significant portion of these forces may enter the fight in the coming days. According to him, North Korean troops are divided into two parts - one consisting of paratroopers and the other of support troops, who will organize defense on the recaptured territories.
It should also be mentioned that according to ISW analysts, limited combat actions took place in the Kursk region on November 5, but there is no confirmation of the advancement of Ukrainian or Russian forces.
According to information from Forbes, three of the best machines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - M-2 Bradley fighting vehicles and the M-1 Abrams tank - were noticed in the battles in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. They broke through the Russian defense south of the village of Novyi Put, which came under the UAV's field of view.
Earlier, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense responded to a question about sending 10-12 thousand North Korean military personnel to the Kursk region, noting that this will not have a significant impact on the war.
As previously reported, Ukrainian intelligence discovered more than 10 thousand North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region. The number of military personnel continues to grow in the region.
