The amount of social assistance for children with Group I disabilities is determined by age category and disability subgroup.
What privileges are available to individuals with Group I disabilities
People with Group I disabilities have the right to a wide range of privileges. In 2025, they can expect such support:
- Healthcare
Free or reduced-cost (50% discount) receipt of prescription medications if the person has a minimum pension or receives social assistance.
Free provision of orthopedic, vision and hearing aids, glasses, hearing aids, electric wheelchairs or even cars — if there are appropriate medical indications.
- Social sphere
Priority establishment of a home phone, provision of hearing-impaired individuals with appropriate devices and an interpreter, as well as sending children for sanatorium-resort treatment.
- Transport privileges
Free travel in urban public transport (except taxis) for both individuals with Group I disabilities and one accompanying person. Additionally, from October 1 to May 15, they have the right to a 50% discount on intercity transportation, railway, air or river transport across Ukraine.
Previously, we reported that in March 2024, pensions in Ukraine were indexed — the amount of benefits was increased by 11.5%. At the same Time, the specific amount received by each pensioner varies as it is determined by individual factors.
We also reported that special assistance for parents of newborns in Ukraine is provided in the form of a basic set of items for infants. A similar form of support is planned to be introduced for families whose children go to school.
Ukrainian citizens with Group I disabilities have the right to a number of social benefits and privileges, including monthly assistance, medical and transport privileges. This is aimed at improving their financial situation and enhancing their living conditions. It is important that the Ukrainian state provides support to those who require special care and attention. The formation of mechanisms of social protection for the most vulnerable layers of the population contributes to the building of a humane and just society.
