Ukrainians in Germany clarified the rules for exchanging driver's licenses: what has changed.
According to inkorr.com: Ukrainians who are in Germany have been provided with information about exchanging Ukrainian driver's licenses for German ones. This information was published by the portal relocate.to.
If you have temporary protection, Ukrainian driver's licenses are valid until the end of this protection period. The exchange of licenses is not mandatory, but it is recommended if you plan to stay in the country for an extended period.
For those who have another status (for example, a work or student visa), Ukrainian licenses are valid only for 6 months after your registration.
To make the exchange, you will need: a passport or residence permit, a Ukrainian driver's license and its copy, a biometric photo, and other documents.
Procedure for exchanging the driver's license
- Check your status and prepare the necessary documents.
- Make an appointment at the office that issues licenses.
- Prepare the documents and pass all necessary tests and courses.
- Submit your application and take the mandatory exams.
- Receive your new German driver's license.
In the future, it is planned to simplify the procedure for exchanging driver's licenses at the federal level. Do not postpone the exchange if you plan to stay in Germany for a long time, as this will allow you to drive without hindrance in European countries.
