The Russian troops have committed another war crime by killing Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region of Russia and in Donetsk. This was reported by the Office of the Attorney General and the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.

According to operational data, on November 10, 2024, Russian military captured two Ukrainian fighters during the assault on the fortified positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the village of Novodmytrivka in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region. They forced the captives to undress and, under threat of weapons, led them through the forest, where they were shot.

Information about the murder of three wounded Ukrainian soldiers at this position is also being examined.

Lubinets also reported that a video of the alleged shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war, who found themselves surrounded by Russian forces in Kursk, has appeared on social media.

«I have written letters to the UN and the ICRC regarding this crime. The international community must act immediately. The occupying country has once again violated the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war. Russia must be stopped. The enemy will be held accountable for every crime», he stated.

The Ombudsman emphasized that prisoners of war must always be protected, including from acts of violence. Russia has committed a war crime, which is a serious violation of the Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law.

The law enforcement agencies are investigating 49 criminal cases regarding the murder of 124 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield.

Russia is killing Ukrainian prisoners of war in order to intimidate its own soldiers and to demonstrate contempt for international humanitarian law.
