In Transnistria, currently under Russian occupation, the supply of heating and hot water has been stopped because Russia refused to supply gas through Ukraine. This was reported by the company Tirasteploeenergo.

Due to the temporary cessation of gas supplies to the heat generating facilities of the enterprise, as of January 1, 2025, from 7:00 AM, the supply of thermal energy for heating and hot water supply to the population, budget institutions, and organizations will be stopped, except for medical institutions with inpatient care.

Residents are advised to wear warm clothes, gather family members in one room, put blankets or curtains on windows and balcony doors, and use electric heaters.

It is prohibited to use gas or electric stoves for heating apartments.

It is reminded that Transnistria received Russian gas through Ukraine, but supplies were interrupted on January 1 due to the expiration of the transit agreement. While it is technically possible to supply gas from Europe, it will be more expensive.

Referendum on joining the European Union

The Transnistrian region of Moldova wishes to hold a referendum regarding its relations with the European Union. Tiraspol accused Chisinau of disrespecting the votes of the residents of Transnistria in the constitutional referendum. Their statement includes the possibility of voting with consideration of agreements between the parties and the participation of international observers, and 'mandatory consideration of the opinion of the population of Transnistria' by the world community.
