Olympic boxer Angela Carini on the bullying after the controversial fight: It ruined my career.
According to The Sun: Olympic boxer Angela Carini, who withdrew from the match against Imane Khelif, admitted that the bullying she experienced 'destroyed her career', similar to an 'infected wound that bleeds and causes pain.'
Angela, a 26-year-old Italian, gained fame after stopping the fight with Khelif at the Paris Olympics in 2024 just 46 seconds in.
INSTAGRAM @angela.carini_tigerShe was able to take two hits to the head before deciding to stop the fight, saving her life.
Tearfully in the ring and in the mixed zone, Carini confessed that she had to 'defend her life', as she had never experienced such a blow, and the pain was 'impossible to continue.'
This step sparked lively discussions around gender issues in boxing, which had been actively discussed last summer at the Olympics.
Algerian Khelif and Malaysian Lin Yu Ting had previously been disqualified at the IBA World Boxing Championship in 2023 due to suspicions of improper gender testing, but they were allowed to compete at the Olympics under IOC rules and won gold medals.
Now Angela spoke about the harsh treatment she faced in the year following the events in Paris.
The former silver medalist at the World and European Championships shared screenshots of hateful messages sent to her on social media, where she was called a 'loser', 'shame of the Italian team', and urged not to go to the Olympics anymore.
“Have you ever thought about how hard it was for me to face such words? What I had to endure over and over? What I had to experience in silence, guarding my health from the senseless social media, from people who speak and say words without thinking twice?”
Carini admitted that she had to 'recover' herself and step away from the public eye to be with her family.
“I urge everyone to think... a word, a gesture, an order can painfully strike and destroy a person”

She returned to the ring in December, winning three fights and becoming the Italian champion for the eighth time.
Later, Angela won the gold medal at the World Cup in boxing in Poland in May.
Now she calls on her haters to realize how their words and actions 'damaged and destroyed a person.'
Carini summarized: “Putting aside all the disappointments, I returned to the ring, confirming myself as the Italian champion, and brought home medals from important international tournaments. Returning to the ring was a tough challenge.”
“These words of mine will not change the world, I will not make people kinder. But at least I urge everyone to think... a word, a gesture, an order can cause harm and destroy a person.”
